What is Montessori?

Montessori education is characterized by an emphasis on independence, freedom within limits, and respect for a child's natural psychological development. These elements are essential:

  •  Mixed age classrooms, aged 2 1/2 - 6 years
  •  Student choice of activity within prescribed options
  •  Uninterrupted blocks of work time
  •  A "discovery" model where students learn concepts from working with materials instead of direct instruction
  •  Specialized educational materials developed by Montessori and her collaborators.

Prepared Environment

Montessori education called for free activity within a "prepared environment," meaning an educational environment tailored to specific characteristics of children at different ages; it should encourage independence and exhibit these characteristics:

Proportionate to Child, Beauty & Cleanliness, Order, Arranged to Facilitate Movement & Activity, and Limitation of  Materials - only materials to support child's development.

The Montessori Method

The Montessori method is based on the premise that children are not simply adults in small bodies, but that children think and develop differently than adults. The Montessori method does not use traditional testing to measure a child's achievements because it is believed that quantifying children is damaging to their growth. Montessori assumes that all children are intelligent but that they learn in different ways. Children learn at their own pace rather through hands on experience rather than learning from a textbook. Montessori teachers spends little time giving group lessons and works with one or two children at a time.

An education rooted in the foundation of biblical teachings addresses the child as a whole. What good is academic success and intelligence when one lacks ethics?  Due to scripture verses like Proverbs 19:27; 22-6; Deutoronomy 6:69; Colossians 2:8; we must provide an atmosphere conducive to Bible instruction. We support and encourage the fruit of spirit, such as love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

Biblical Education

Bottomline, your child and/or children will benefit from true early learning. We want to encourage: personal, social, and emotional development. We are not just a daycare, but a pre-school academy dedicated to the development and success of your child. Our participation in the food program exists so that their nutritional needs will be met with quality food for their bodies, the Montessori education is there to aide in lifelong learning success, and last but not least - our foundation in Biblical principles prepares the spirit for a life of purpose and faith.
